Ann Curry

Ann Curry is a photojournalist, journalist and author who has covered areas of war for over forty-five years. Her work focuses on human suffering and disasters. Curry was noted especially for her coverage of the humanitarian crisis in war-ravaged countries as well as on natural disasters. Curry was born in Japan, and educated by a Japanese mother. Her father served as an U.S. Navy sailor. Her father met her mother in Japan while he was stationed there following World War II. The family was frequently in and out of the country due to the service of her dad in the military. Curry finished her high schooling in Ashland Oregon. In 1978 she graduated in 1978 from the University of Oregon with a bachelor's degree in journalism. It is possible that she developed an empathetic manner of communication through her exposure to different cultures throughout her life. Her final graduation was from Ashland high school. In Medford the following year, she began her career in broadcasting at KTVL Channel 10 as an intern. at the age of 22, she became the first reporter to be female at KTVL. Then, she stepped on to become an anchor and reporter at KGW, which is an NBC affiliate station in Portland. When she moved to Los Angeles, she became a reporter at KCBS TV just four years after moving to the city. There were two Emmy Awards were won during her time with the KCBS-TV.
